Sam Allerton Green is a landscape painter based in Providence, Rhode Island, whose work delves into the nuanced elements of New England’s diverse landscapes. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Sam has cultivated a unique artistic voice that merges vibrant abstraction with a grittier perspective.
Working primarily in oil, Sam’s paintings emphasize large shapes of color that capture both the serene and the overlooked elements of the landscape. He often focuses on the parts of the environment that the eye tends to overlook—the not-so-scenic details we quickly move past. By highlighting these less appreciated aspects, Sam invites viewers to slow down and engage with the richness of the landscape, encouraging a deeper appreciation for its complexities. His practice often takes him outdoors, where he paints en plein air in a variety of conditions, from the heat of the sun to the stillness of snow, and even under the night sky.
