Bridget Jourgensen

Bridget Jourgensen (b. November 26, 1959, Massachusetts) resides in Providence, Rhode Island. She grew up in an impoverished Irish-Catholic neighborhood of Boston and left home at the age of seventeen. Seeking adventure, she moved to Colorado on a whim without a driver's license or much money. But she did bring a camera.
The abundance of natural beauty in the West was alluring, but after five years she returned to her native Boston and forged a successful career in commercial real estate as a property manager. She married, had a daughter, and divorced in a span of seven years.
Through the decades, photography was a constant in her life. Beyond taking snapshots of family and vacations, she studied the work of a wide swath of accomplished photographers, and quietly honed her craft with self-portraiture, abstract work, and street photography.
Now, as a retiree, she devotes her free time to expanding her expression as a photographer with the hope of creating a compelling and evocative body of work. She is the 2024 recipient of the Griffin Museum of Photography Emerging Artist Award, and an exhibiting member of the Providence Art Club.
